KIKUUBE RECEIVES 96,500 DOSES OF POLIO VACCINE, EXERCISE TO KICK OFF ON FRIDAY
KIKUUBE: Kikuube district in Bunyoro sub region has received 96,500 doses of the polio vaccine, according to Peter Byaruhanga the District Surveillance Focal Person, the vaccination exercise will kick off on Friday 14th-16th of January 2022, and their target population are children from 0-5 years of age.
Byaruhanga also said they intend to vaccinate over 70,000 children in Kikuube District. ‘’We intend to vaccinate over 70,000 children in the entire district, the vaccinations are safe and free,’’ he asserted.
Hector Tibeihaho the Exercise Central Supervisor from the ministry of health presented the major objective of the vaccination as to prevent further spread of the virus especially in young children were Uganda has over 8.7 million children under 5years of age who need to be protected from the virus. ‘’Our major objective of the vaccination exercise is to prevent further spread of polio virus among the children,’’ he noted.
The district LCV chairperson Hon Peter Banura urged parents to embrace the exercise, and also take it serious especially now that most children are going to be vaccinated from home. ‘’Since its door to door exercise, parents need to embrace it for the safety of our children,’’ he urged parents.
The district boss also implored the medics to give in their best especially in the field pledging to give them total support during the exercise.
Florah Mpabaisi the Senior Assistant CAO Buhimba Sub County called for information sharing in regards to the exercise to enable the public acknowledgement on what is taking place on ground. ‘’Let’s share the information in regards to vaccination exercise for public acknowledgement to ensure all children in the above age bracket are vaccinated,’’ she asserted.
